Industry Relationships

The entire appointment was conducted in a professional, yet empathetic manner. His staff treated us with courtesy and respect. Dr. Olivares was thorough and precise in his explanation of his diagnosis. He made sure we clearly understood the MRI scan and answered all of our questions. He promised the Radiologist's report would be completed in less than a week. We were delighted when Dr. Olivares personally called us to delivered and explain the radiologist's findings.

I personally believe that Dr. Ruben Olivares should be Teaching, Instructing in areas of Hospital etiquette or bed side manner! He has a very inviting mannerism of trust and instilling confidence to allay fears, doubt and anxiety. I wish I'd had him years ago, he imparts much digestible information to the patient ( myself) so as to elevate their level of comfort before and during whatever procedure surgical or otherwise. What an honest true gem at Cleveland Clinic Hospital. If I were a producer I would make a movie about this doctor, his personality is so sincere and respectful of the dignity of his patients ( my dignity).

Dr. Olivares started with a basic explanation of anatomy (with hand drawings) and moved on to the pros and cons of various treatment options, which he was very frank and open about. The information he gave was much more complete than what I had received from my previous provider, and he was more concerned about getting as much information (through imaging) as possible.

While a full diagnosis depends on an MRI and biopsy, Dr. Olivares was refreshingly forthcoming regarding the range of possibilities and his expectation of the severity. If a difficult salvage prostatectamy is required, he said he might refer me to a colleague. At the optimistic end of the spectrum, cryotherapy might be appropriate, and he referred us to specialists at Johns Hopkins and Duke, allowing us to set up an appointment there in advance of the biopsy results. I have great confidence in Dr. Olivares.

The procedure started extremely later than scheduled. The nurses tried contacting him multiple times and received no responses. He had no apology for tardiness. I voiced concerns about an adequate amount of anesthesia being used and the whole procedure was a very uncomfortable experience.

Dr. Olivares carefully explained my condition and all options for potential treatments/surveilance. I found the Doctor to be completely professional and courteous in my visits.
