Our Non-Categorical Internship program is for applicants who did not match with a Neurosurgery Residency Program. Neurosurgery Residency Programs are seven years. Participants in the one year Neurosurgery internship in H or J nonimmigrant status will not be able to complete the seven year residency requirement after completing the one year internship program. Further, the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) will not sponsor international medical graduates in this program. For these reasons, we can only accept applications from permanent residents or U.S. citizens.
Applicants are considered after the NRMP match process in mid March. Ideally, this program is an opportunity for those who were unable to secure a position in a neurosurgical residency program. Therefore, an application, CV, three letters of recommendation including neurosurgery rotations, exam scores, personal statement and a visa to support the duration of the neurosurgery resident program is required.
