The Healthy Solon Wellness Experience
The 2012 Healthy Solon Wellness Experience brought in a great crowd to the Solon Community Center. Beginning in January, the nine week program included free health assessments, screenings, fitness classes, and health information sessions. Many participants, like Iris Spencer, benefited from the program. “The Healthy Solon Wellness Experience was really beneficial,” said Iris. After dealing with the deaths of loved ones over the past two years, Iris Spencer sought solace in the Wellness Experience. Programs like Jennifer Hunter’s stress management information session really provided the support that she needed. Another participant, Judy Fulton, really enjoyed fitness classes like the TRX System. “We had energy the next day and our bones weren’t sore,” claimed Fulton. The TRX System offers suspension full body training to build power, strength, flexibility and balance, all with the use of a cutting edge training tool of suspension straps.

Healthy Solon Run/Walk and Health Fair
Attendees Moved to Live a Healthier Life
Saturday, September 24, saw about 150 Solon residents, family and friends run and walk their way to better health as part of the 2011 Healthy Solon 3.5 Mile Run and 1.5 Mile Walk. Awards were given to overall top male and female runners and the top three finishers in each of seven age groups in the run. (Photos from the event are below.)
Later that morning, the athletes were joined by participants attending the Healthy Solon Health Fair. Both the run and walk and the health fair events were hosted at the Solon Community Center and were co-sponsored by the City of Solon, Cleveland Clinic Solon Family Health Center, and South Pointe and Hillcrest Hospitals. Additional health fair sponsors included Aetna, Britton Gallagher and Medical Mutual.
Over 500 participants ventured indoors to receive information and take part in the health fair. Words of welcome were spoken by Solon Mayor Susan Drucker and Solon Family Health Center Medical Director Daniel Sullivan, MD. Attendees ranged from toddlers having their faces or arms painted by Sparkles the Clown to seniors gathering nutrition and wellness materials. Approximately 60 booths provided health materials and screenings. Health screenings included blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, BMI, spine health, bone density, and ear health.
Raffle prizes donated by local business and vendors, and the grand prize of a 42-inch flat screen TV, were raffled off during the day. Performances by Solon Center for the Arts’ ACT II Singers and Spotlight Youth Theater's cast of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast rounded out the event.
Many thanks to our participants and volunteers, and to our sponsors, Aetna, Britton Gallagher and Medical Mutual. We’d also like to thank Mayor Susan Drucker, Cleveland Clinic Solon Medical Director Dr. Daniel Sullivan, Champ Racing, the Solon Community Center, Solon Center for the Arts and everyone who helped to make the day a health and wellness success.
