Canine Crew

Canine Crew

Being a patient in a hospital can be a stressful experience. At Medina Hospital we understand this and are pleased to offer Canine Crew, an animal-assisted therapeutic program. Canine Crew features patient visits by specially trained and nationally certified dogs and their owners who are also Medina Hospital volunteers.

Pet Therapy

  • Promotes relaxation
  • Improves responsiveness in some patients
  • Provides a diversion for patients who may be nervous or preoccupied with testing or coming procedures
  • Patients often receive unconditional love from the dogs.

Handlers attend volunteer training and orientation and their dogs are specially trained and certified through Therapy Dogs International or the Pet Partners®. These organizations provide strict guidelines established for the safety of everyone involved.

Patients may request a Canine Crew visit by contacting a member of the nursing staff. While they do their best to accommodate each request, Canine Crew visitation varies daily. If the patient's physician determines the visit may interfere with their condition, a visit will not be scheduled.

For more information about the Canine Crew program, contact Medina Hospital Volunteer Services at 330.721.5994 or e-mail us at ndeangelis@ccf.org
