The New Heart Of The Cleveland Clinic
With the opening of the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Pavilion last month, Cleveland Clinic has ushered in a new era in patient-centered cardiovascular care.
The new home of the Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic offers the most sophisticated imaging, diagnostic and treatment technology available in medicine today, all under one roof. In addition to offering all the services a patient needs, the Miller Family Pavilion also features thoughtful design and attention to detail throughout, enhancing the complete patient experience.
Here are a few examples of the innovative ways we’ve made cardiovascular care better for you and your family:
- New, easy-access – The Miller Family Pavilion is designed for multiple points of entry, by helicopter, ambulance, car, bicycle, wheelchair or on foot. We’ve added new parking for 4,000 cars, connected by a convenient underground tunnel. Appointments can be made by phone, MyChart, eCleveland Clinic, or DrConnect. In turn, patients are more accessible to doctors, with cross-accessible IT systems, physical proximity of specialists, and office space that is designed to facilitate joint consultations
- Comfortable “hotel-like” rooms – Hospital rooms are designed to care for the “whole person.” All rooms are private with pullout sofas for overnight family stays. Medical equipment is hidden, but quickly accessible. Patients’ daily appointments for testing and transport are centrally tracked, allowing nurses to coordinate meals around patient’s presence or absence.
- Clustered diagnostic services – Echo, CT and MRI are clustered into a joint imaging center on the first floor for the convenience of patients.
- High-tech, high-touch operating rooms – Our new ORs were designed with patient comfort in mind, with fast cooling/heating in each room. ORs are built from the ground up to permit hybrid surgeries (for instance, the “elephant trunk” procedure), which combine open chest, laparoscopic and percutaneous interventions. Terrazzo flooring, air processing unit and hepa filters will assure the most stable, sterile environment.
- Induction/Recovery Area: Patients can be prepared for surgery on transferable OR beds in the special induction/recovery area.
- Dedicated ICUs – The Miller Family Pavilion building has 110 intensive care unit (ICU) beds distributed in four dedicated ICUs. There are dedicated ICUs for coronary patients, heart failure patients, and two ICUs for surgical patients, to assure that every patient gets the care he or she needs. ICUs and Step Downs are now on same floor, minimizing delays.
- Dedicated robotics suites – Robotically-assisted heart surgery provides a minimally invasive alternative to traditional open heart surgery. Our two new dedicated robotic suites will enable us to treat more patients with this state-of-the art technology.
- CT scanners in ICUs – The multispecialty care teams in the ICUs will now include radiologists, who will be able to scan critically ill patients without having to transport the patients long distances in the hospital.
- More and Larger Cath Labs – More and larger cath labs will allow patients to be treated quickly and more efficiently and reduce waiting.
- Rooftop Plaza - This glass-enclosed patio provides a space for patients and staff to relax and offers speculator views of downtown Cleveland and Lake Erie. The plaza will provide a tranquil place for families and patients to retreat. Open area will sit up to 50 people.
- Massage and Relaxation Suite – Soothing, relaxing massages from skilled professionals can reduce tension, increase blood supply to muscles and relieve pain. Services are provided in a dedicated suite – soothing atmosphere – allows patients and families a quiet, peaceful retreat.
- Retail lobby – Stores, including a special wellness store, as well as a bookstore and new dining options will make the lobby interesting and welcoming to patients and visitors.
