Speech-Language Pathology services are provided through the Head & Neck Institute (Ear, Nose and Throat) and The Voice Center at Cleveland Clinic. A speech-language pathologist is also known as a speech therapist, speech clinician or speech pathologist. A speech-language pathologist diagnoses and treats communication limitations, (speech, language, voice) and swallowing disorders in children and adults including patients with conditions of the head and neck (head and neck cancer), neurological diseases (stroke, Parkinson’s, ALS) and atypical child development, (autism, developmental delays).
Speech pathologists must complete a Masters Degree and a 9-month post-masters supervised fellowship. Once these advanced training goals are reached, they may earn the Certificate of Clinical Competence, (CCC), from the American Speech Language Hearing Association, (www.asha.org).
All speech pathologists within the Head and Neck Institute hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence and are licensed by the state of Ohio. They provide highly sophisticated speech-language pathology care and treatment to children and adults, and represent one of several specialized sections within the Head and Neck Institute.
