Biographical Sketch:

  • Mary Hujer has been a nurse for almost 30 years. An advanced practice nurse - she is a certified Clinical Nurse Specialist - she sees older adults on an outpatient basis and has prescriptive authority. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic, she worked as an oncology nurse and was director of the Adult Day Care Program at Fairview Hospital.
  • She has written many articles for nursing and medical journals and a book chapter on elder abuse and neglect. She has been principal investigator for several studies on caregiving for patients with dementia. In addition, she frequently makes presentations at professional conferences, where she discusses elder care, caregiver issues (such as stress and burnout), and the special needs of those caring for older adults with dementia.
  • In her spare time, she volunteers with the American Red Cross and enjoys public speaking.

Biographical Sketch:

  • Jeanette Miksa completed her L.P.N. training in October 2005 and, because of her interest in acute and long-term care nursing and her clinical rotation at Cleveland Clinic, she joined the Department of Internal Medicine in November 2005. As the Geriatric Medicine team's designated L.P.N., she is involved with geriatric assessments as well as the care of older patients needing post-operative care, long-term care and rehabilitation services.
  • In her spare time, she enjoys camping, reading, and spending time with her family.

Biographical Sketch:

  • Louis Pitschmann joined Cleveland Clinic's Social Work Department in 2003. He provides individual and group psychosocial services to outpatients and families, including older patients and their caregivers. In addition, he provides social services to patients in the Aging Brain Clinic and the Minority Men's Health Center.
  • He is a Reiki master practitioner and in his spare time swims, practices Reiki, and keeps his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle in tip-top repair
