Biography

About Surabhi Ranjan, MD

I am a neuro-oncologist with a background in neurology. I trained in clinical and research aspects of neuro-oncology at the prestigious joint neuro-oncology fellowship program of National Institutes of Health and Johns Hopkins University. Since then, I have practiced a wide spectrum of neuro-oncology and have expertise in treating glioblastoma, astrocytoma, oligodendroglioma, diffuse midline glioma with H3 K27M mutation, ependymoma, meningioma, CNS lymphoma and a gamut of rare brain tumors. I am well versed in treating neurological complications of cancer and cancer therapies, such as radiation necrosis. I am interested in clinical trial development both for primary brain tumors and brain metastases. I serve as an Assistant Professor in Neurology at the University of Central Florida where I mentor undergraduate and medical students. I have published my research in peer reviewed journals such as the Journal of Neuro-Oncology, Frontiers in Oncology, BMC Neurology, Continuum Neurology and presented in international meetings and conferences such as Society for Neuro-Oncology, American Academy of Neurology and the Second International Gliomatosis Cerebri Meeting. I have served as principal and associate investigators for clinical trials and I am a peer reviewer for the Journal of Neuro-Oncology, BMC Neurology and BMJ Case Reports. I was recently honored to be inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

With the understanding that brain metastases and their complications are on the rise, I have developed a special interest in managing patients with brain metastases of systemic cancers. Patients with brain metastasis represent an underserved group and I firmly believe that they deserve a multidisciplinary care with a focus on their neurological symptom management, incorporation of brain penetrating chemotherapy and clinical trial access.

My biggest joy and motivation comes from seeing my patients improve in their journey. When I am able to improve a patient's symptoms or reverse their neurological deficit, my day is made!

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.
