David Peter is the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital. In this role, Dr. Peter leads the hospital’s strategic direction, development and performance, and spearheads quality improvement projects. He is also the Documentation Excellence Executive Physician Champion for Cleveland Clinic Florida and a Medical Director for Mergers and Acquisitions Informatics.
Previously, Dr. Peter was Chief Medical Officer at Cleveland Clinic Akron General.
Dr. Peter received his medical degree and residency training in emergency medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He is board-certified in hospice and palliative medicine, as well as emergency medicine. Dr. Peter completed his MBA through the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Isenberg School of Management.
He has over 30 years of experience in leadership, including documentation and coding, and has led successful clinical documentation integrity and coding teams. Dr. Peter has authored many journal articles, book chapters and abstracts, and participates on several community boards.
