Volunteering With Cleveland Clinic

Volunteers play a vital part in helping us meet Cleveland Clinic’s goal to be the best place for care anywhere — and the best place to work in healthcare.

Our dedicated and compassionate volunteers join us in treating our patients and fellow caregivers like family and our organization as their home.

Our volunteers offer their time and talent in a variety of ways that improve both the patient and caregiver experience. These opportunities may be as simple as helping patients find their way in an unfamiliar place or delivering smiles and encouragement. Or you may help out during a special visit through our Caring Canine Program.

No matter how you choose to volunteer, we’re glad you’ve chosen to spend your time with us. And we’d love to find a place for you on our volunteer team.

You can learn more about our volunteer program opportunities at your local Cleveland Clinic hospital and apply to become a volunteer through this link.

You can also call 216.445.6986 or email volunteer@ccf.org with questions or to ask for assistance completing the application process.

Why Volunteer?

Simply put — you can make a difference.

That difference could be when you brighten up our hallways with cheerfulness and a friendly smile. Or you might help us give patients the added human touch that’s so important in the healing process.

Volunteering is also a great way to learn or develop a new skill. And it’s an opportunity to make new friends with others who are giving their time.

So, come join our volunteer team. We think you’ll find that it’s a wonderful experience and gives you the opportunity not only to make a difference in others’ lives, but also your own.

Volunteer Opportunities

While each hospital has different opportunities available, you can expect to find a variety of volunteer roles. A few of our common volunteer opportunities include:

  • Lobby greeter: Greet patients and visitors and offer assistance in finding their way around the hospital.
  • Nursing unit: Make friendly visits to patient rooms, assist in stocking supplies or provide comfort items (pillows, blankets, snacks or drinks) to patients.
  • Spiritual care: Distribute spiritual care information to patients and caregivers. (For this volunteer opportunity, you must be recognized by and meet the requirements of your local faith group or organization to share a religious tradition.)
  • Caring Canines: These volunteers bring their well-trained dogs to greet and visit with our patients, visitors and caregivers. We believe these furry visitors have a positive effect on the wellbeing of those they visit.  Dogs in this program must maintain certification as a therapy dog and be up to date on vaccinations.
  • Healthcare Partners: Serve as a patient and family advisor, providing your perspectives about the design and delivery of care at Cleveland Clinic. Healthcare Partners participate in projects and committees in areas where they, or a loved one, have received care.

Note that the minimum age to volunteer at Cleveland Clinic is 15, but some locations have a higher age requirement or only accept volunteers who are under 18 during certain time periods. You can check the requirements at the hospital where you’d like to volunteer. Volunteers are asked to commit to a four-hour shift at the same time and on the same day each week for one year.
