About the Course
Target Audience
Urologists who have experience with kidney and adrenal surgery seeking to acquire or enhance their abilities to perform robotic procedures in particular robotic partial nephrectomy are encouraged to attend.
Course Description / Purpose / Need
This course is designed for urologists who are seeking to acquire or enhance their abilities to perform robotic renal and adrenal surgery.
Didactic presentations will cover robotic technology, patient selection, indications and contraindications, patient preparation and positioning, OR setup, stepwise surgical techniques of radical nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy, pyeloplasty and adrenalectomy. Review of large series results and complications associated with renal robotic surgery. Live case demonstrations will include robotic partial nephrectomy, robotic nephrectomy and robotic pyeloplasty with a Step-By- Step demonstration of the technique.
Hands-on Lab on the porcine model to proctor participants placing ports and performing robotic pyeloplasty, partial nephrectomy and radical nephrectomy.
The purpose of this course is to teach urologic surgeons how to perform robotic renal and adrenal surgery.
Learning Objectives
After participating in the course, the urologist will:
- Define appropriate patient selection, the indications and contraindications of robotic renal and adrenal surgery.
- Explain patient preparation, OR setup, robotic instrumentation and patient positioning.
- Identify the surgical techniques needed for robotic partial nephrectomy, robotic adrenalectomy and robotic pyeloplasty.
- Demonstrate the complications associated with robotic renal and adrenal surgery, their prevention, recognition and management.
