Biographical Sketch
Joseph Foss, MD, is the Director of Clinical Research for General Anesthesiology in the Department of Anesthesiology at Cleveland clinic’s main campus. His specialty interests include clinical research, pain research, and clinical pharmacology, general and ambulatory anesthesia.
Dr. Foss earned his medical degree from Brown University School of Medicine in Providence, R.I. He completed a surgical internship at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center in Portland, Ore. He also completed an anesthesia residency and a clinical pharmacology fellowship at the University of Chicago Hospitals in Chicago, Ill.
He is a Diplomate with the American Board of Anesthesiology, and a member of several medical societies, including the American Medical Association, the Ohio Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the International Anesthesia Research Society, among others.
Dr. Foss has published a number of articles in peer-reviewed journals on various topics related to anesthesiology and pharmacology. He has also lectured on the topics.

Innovations & Patents
Developed a novel drug, methylnaltrexone, which is under FDA review for the treatment of side effects of opioid pain medications.
