Biographical Sketch
Saundra Beth Bierer, PhD, is Staff and Director of Evaluation in the Education Institute at Cleveland Clinic's main campus. Having served in this role since 2005, Dr. Bierer oversees evaluation of education programs, functions as program evaluator for grants, teaches graduate-level courses, and conducts educational research.
Dr. Bierer's work has been published regarding several topics, including: peer assessment of professional competence; home care nurses’ attitudes toward computers; and the cardiac exam: a prototype for web-based clinical curriculum. She has given presentations on how to teach professionalism to residents; teaching at the patient’s side; and a method of acclimating medical students to practice profiling.
Dr. Bierer's memberships include the American Evaluation Association, American Educational Research Association, and American Association of Medical Colleges. She has also served as a consultant for the Visiting Nurse Association in Cleveland , OH and the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, MI. Her committee involvement includes several committees for the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine (i.e., Deans’ Advisory Group, Student Assessment Committee, Medical Education Research Committee, Curriculum Steering Council, Foundations of Medicine Committee, etc.) and the Molecular Medicine PhD Program (Executive Committee and Curriculum Steering Council).
Dr. Bierer received her BS degree and MEd degree in education in from Bowling Green State University (BGSU) in Bowling Green, Ohio. In 2005, Dr. Bierer completed her PhD in evaluation and measurement at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Prior to her PhD, she worked as a medical educator at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
Her honors include the several Scholarship in Teaching Awards from Case Western Reserve University and the Distinguished Educator Award from the Cleveland Clinic.
