Biographical Sketch
Dr. Marc A. Pohl is currently Head of the Section of Clinical Hypertension and Nephrology, Department of Nephrology and Hypertension at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and holds the Ray W. Gifford, Jr., M.D. Endowed Chair in Hypertension.
After graduating from Amherst College, Dr. Pohl received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and then interned and completed a residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland, followed by a senior residency and nephrology fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston University Medical Center and Boston City Hospital. Dr. Pohl has been affiliated with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation since 1973; his appointments have included heading the home dialysis training program, and serving as program director of the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension.
Dr. Pohl has been a co-investigator in several major trials, including the Collaborative Study of Adult Nephrotic Syndrome and Adult Glomerular Disease, the Lupus Nephritis Collaborative Study Group, the North American Adult Nephrotic Syndrome, and the Collaborative Study Group. He is the author of more than 80 articles, 90 abstracts, and numerous book chapters. Dr. Pohl actively participates as a faculty member of many national and international symposia and postgraduate courses in nephrology and hypertension.
Dr. Pohl belongs to the American Society of Nephrology, the International Society of Nephrology, and the American Heart Association and its Council for High Blood Pressure Research, the National Kidney Foundation, and the American Society of Hypertension. He is a past Chairman of the Post-Graduate Education Committee of the American Society of Nephrology. He has been listed in The Best Doctors in America since 1992.
