Biographical Sketch
Brian Stephany, MD, is an Associate Staff Member in the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension at the Glickman Urologic and Kidney Institute, as well as an Associate Staff Member in the Transplantation Center at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus. He is Co-Director of the Cleveland Clinic Nephrology Update Symposium. His research interests include chronic kidney disease management post-solid organ transplantation and novel therapies for glomerulonephritis.
He earned his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health in Columbus, Ohio. He completed an internship and an internal medicine residency at University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, Mich. He also completed a nephrology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Stephany is certified by the State Medical Board, a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine with additional certification in Nephrology.
He has published a number of manuscripts, book chapters and abstracts on topics such as chronic kidney disease, kidney transplantation, and tumor lysis syndrome, among many others.
He is a member of the American Society of Transplantation, the American Society of Nephrology and the National Kidney Foundation.
Industry Relationships
Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with
the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop
medical breakthroughs or provide medical education about recent
trends. The collaborations are reviewed as part of the Cleveland
Clinic’s procedures. The Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses
payments to its physicians and scientists for speaking and
consulting of $5,000 or more per year, and any equity,
royalties, and fiduciary relationships in companies with which
they collaborate. The Cleveland Clinic requires its doctors
to approve the public disclosures of their scientific
collaborations with industry. As of 10/24/2008 the review
process regarding Dr. Stephany’s disclosure had not been
completed. Patients should feel free to contact their doctor
