Biographical Sketch
Paul S. Treuhaft, MD, received a BA from Oberlin College and an MD from the University of Chicago. He did an internship in surgery at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, and a residency in orthopedic surgery at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago. He was a USPHS Fellow in arthritis and metabolic diseases at the University of Chicago, and served two years on active duty with the Air Force before entering practice.
Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in 1977, Dr. Treuhaft is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and of the American College of Surgeons. He is a founding Fellow of the Association of Arthritic Hip and Knee Surgeons.
Dr. Treuhaft practiced orthopedic surgery for 18 years at the Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, Wis. During that time, he concentrated on total joint replacement, and acquired substantial experience in revision surgery. He also served a number of years as Department Chairman. In 1993, he moved to a private practice in Lorain County, Ohio, in preparation for an early retirement from active surgery. In 1994, he was a participant in the NIH Consensus Panel on Total Hip Replacement.
After leaving his surgical practice in 1998, Dr. Treuhaft entered Case Western Reserve University, graduating with an MA in bioethics in 2000. Since that time, he has served as a bioethicist at Community Health Partners Hospital in Lorain, Ohio, and as a Lorain County Deputy Coroner from 1999 until 2009. Currently he devotes his efforts to his office-based practice with the Cleveland Clinic Lorain.
Currently residing in Oberlin, Ohio, Dr. Treuhaft is active in community affairs, including Oberlin College Alumni affairs. He serves on the Board of the Lorain County General Health District.
Dr. Treuhaft has published eight papers in scholarly journals, but he prefers to spend his spare time turning wood in his workshop.
