Biographical Sketch
Leo Pozuelo, MD, FACP, has been Staff Psychiatrist at Cleveland Clinic since 1997 and is the current Section Head of Consultation Psychiatry. He has the pleasure to serve as Associate Director of the Bakken Heart Brain Institute, which was created in 2004. Cleveland Clinic has hosted the annual Heart Brain Summit since 2005, providing a one-in-a-kind forum attracting professionals from the disciplines of cardiology, neurology, behavioral medicine and biomechanical science.
Dr. Pozuelo's interests in psychosomatic medicine have concentrated in the arena of depression and cardiovascular disease. Current multidisciplinary projects include depression and correlation of heart rate recovery in cardiac disease, incidence of depression and atrial fibrillation, as well as anxiety disorders and arrhythmias.
Dr. Pozuelo received his medical degree from the University of Navarra Medical School in Pamplona, Spain. He is dually board-certified in internal medicine and psychiatry after completing a medicine residency in internal medicine at Huron Hospital in Cleveland and a psychiatry residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland and at Cleveland Clinic. He is also board-certified in psychosomatic medicine.
He pursues his interest in consultation liaison psychiatry as well as primary-care psychiatry. Dr. Pozuelo was the past Program Director for Adult Psychiatry, and is significantly involved in medical student education at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
In November of 2005, in conjunction with the Department of Preventive Cardiology and Cardiac Rehabilitation, a Cardiovascular Behavioral Medicine Clinic was established to closely assess the psychiatric and psychological needs of cardiac patients at Cleveland Clinic.
