Gohar Dar, MD, is a Cardiac Anesthesiologist in the Department of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Cleveland Clinic. He holds a certificate from the United States Medical Licensing Examination and has a Human Research Subjects Protection Training Certificate in intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography. In addition to anesthesia, Dr. Dar’s specialty interests include critical care medicine, use of ultrasound in the critical care setting, sepsis, ARDS and intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography.
Dr. Dar was born in Jhelum, Pakistan, and attended medical school at the Ayub Medical College at Peshawar University in Pakistan, graduating with degrees in surgery and in medicine. He completed an internship in internal medicine and a residency in anesthesia at Jackson Memorial Hospital of the University of Miami in Florida. During his tenure at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Dr. Dar was named Best Preliminary Intern of the Year. Cleveland Clinic granted Dr. Dar a fellowship in critical care medicine, during which he won the Fellow of the Year Award in Critical Care Medicine. This was followed by a Cleveland Clinic fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesia. Dr. Dar was appointed to Cleveland Clinic in 2003 as a Staff Cardiac Anesthesiologist.
In addition to the clinical training listed above, Dr. Dar trained during an externship in pulmonary medicine at State University of New York's VA Medical Center. He also had a residency in pulmonary medicine at the Khadim Ali Memorial Hospital in Jhelum, Pakistan, and additional training in primary care medicine at Abbas Hospital in Islamabad, Pakistan. He served as House Physician and House Surgeon at Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.
Dr. Dar has presented several papers to national conferences and symposia including the 2003 Annual Meeting of the Society of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologists. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Society of Echocardiography and the Society of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologists.
