Bruce Lytle, MD, is Chairman of the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart  & Vascular Institute at the Cleveland Clinic and a staff cardiac surgeon in the Cleveland Clinic Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Lytle has a special interest in coronary artery disease, arterial bypass grafting, valvular heart diseases, valve surgery, re-operations and diseases of the thoracic aorta.

Dr. Lytle grew up in Fargo, N.D., where he attended Fargo Central High School. His undergraduate work was done at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, where he graduated with Great Distinction. He then crossed the country to attend medical school at Harvard University, graduating cum laude. He completed his surgical internship and residencies at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Dr. Lytle spent one year at Shotley Bridge Hospital in England as Senior Registrar in Cardiothoracic Surgery before returning to Massachusetts General Hospital as Chief Resident in Cardiovascular Surgery. He joined the Cleveland Clinic's Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in 1978.

Dr. Lytle has authored or co-authored numerous articles and papers in leading scientific journals as well as book chapters in textbooks on cardiovascular disease. His publications cover a wide range of topics such as coronary artery bypass grafting, thoracic aortic dissections, surgery for valve disease, coronary atherosclerosis, blood conservation in cardiac surgery, endocarditis, pericardial constriction, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Dr. Lytle is a member of the American College of Cardiology, American College of Surgeons, American Heart Association, American Medical Association, Ohio Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, Ohio State Medical Association, American Association for Thoracic Surgery, Cleveland Academy of Medicine, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the American Surgical Association.

Dr. Lytle is a conservationist, fly fisherman, and motorcyclist.
