Orthopaedics Fellowship
Mark Schickendantz, M.D.
Program Director
The sports medicine program is a one-year fellowship that accepts three candidates per year. Emphasis is placed on the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries of professional as well as recreational athletes. Through didactic lecture, cadaver dissection, journal club, observation and supervised treatment of patients in the clinic, operating room and athletic training room, the fellow will expand his or her cognitive ability to diagnose and treat sports injuries. The fellow will develop skills in arthroscopy, fracture care, ligament reconstruction and other open procedures. In addition, the fellow will work directly with athletic trainers, physical therapists and sports physiologists learning and developing skills applicable to their specific disciplines.
Fellows are invited to all orthopedic surgery resident conferences, are required to attend Grand Rounds, and are required to prepare and participate in weekly sports medicine conferences dedicated to their area and level of training. They are also required to prepare lectures and presentations for the orthopedic surgery residents.
