Victoria L. Butler, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, CNOR, FACHE, is associate chief nursing officer of surgical services for Cleveland Clinic health system. With more than three decades of experience in the professional practice of nursing, Butler’s management and administrative experience spans surgical nursing departments at nine healthcare organizations throughout the country, including Cleveland Clinic, The Johns Hopkins Hospital, University of Maryland Medical Center and George Washington University Medical Center.

Butler’s expertise is in surgical nursing administration and her clinical background resides in perioperative nursing. One of her most notable Cleveland Clinic career accomplishments includes the introduction of the now-patented, data-driven perioperative staffing models, which provide a defensible strategy for nursing resource allocation. Butler is an accomplished lecturer and published author. Additionally, she holds two national nursing certifications, is a board-certified nurse executive and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Leadership

A driven leader who brings a wealth of administrative experience to the team, Butler is responsible for the management and oversight of all perioperative and surgical nursing at Cleveland Clinic main campus and works with nursing and organizational leaders throughout each of Cleveland Clinic’s regional facilities to ensure surgical nursing best practices are implemented and the organization’s strategic goals are achieved. Throughout her career, she has fulfilled various leadership positions, including vice president of nursing, chief nursing officer and executive director, and is an expert in creating high-performance teams, increasing volumes and revenue streams and leading change in competitive business environments.

Butler’s clinical experience lies within the area of perioperative and surgical nursing.

Teaching

Butler’s teaching experience includes several years serving as a mentor for graduate-level nursing administration students. Additionally, she fulfilled the role of affiliate faculty member at the following institutions:

Research, Publications & Presentations

An experienced presenter and publisher of many printed professional works, Bailey has written and spoken on topics ranging from developing better critical paths in healthcare through the combination of best practices and a quantitative approach, implementing a system for care of patients with latex allergies, and the effect of a nursing intervention on caregivers’ satisfaction with information received during the hospital stay.
