Patient Education

According to data compiled by the National Cancer Institute, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the United States (other than skin cancer). In 2013, more than 232,000 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. A U.S. woman who lives to the age of 90 has a one in eight risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer. It is for these reasons that women must be proactive about screening for breast cancer and all breast cancer symptoms.

Fortunately, preventive efforts can slow the disease’s spread and prevent fatalities. Regular, careful screening for breast lumps and other breast cancer symptoms remains the best means of detecting the disease early, when it is most easily treated. It is important for women to recognize all breast cancer symptoms.
