Thoracic and Cardiac Imaging Fellowship

Overview

The Thoracic and Cardiac Imaging Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic provides a rich multi-disciplinary experience in cardiothoracic imaging derived from (1) exceptional educators, (2) Cleveland Clinic’s outstanding respiratory, cardiac, surgical, critical care, and oncologic services, and (3) a high volume and extraordinary range of clinical pathology. Past fellows have been well prepared in pursuing competitive academic and private practice careers.

Clinical

Eight full-time thoracic radiologists participate equally in the section’s clinical and educational mission. Over 150,000 thoracic imaging examinations (including 15,000 CT imaging studies) and over 200 interventional procedures are performed annually. Fellows are exposed to the entire range of cardiothoracic imaging, including:

  • Chest radiograph interpretation in the outpatient, inpatient, and ICU settings
  • Chest CT interpretation
  • Chest MR interpretation
  • Chest fluoroscopy
  • Image-guided thoracic interventions
  • Interpretation, protocol review, and physics of Cardiovascular CT imaging (via 3 four-week dedicated cardiac imaging blocks and dedicated lecture series)

Opportunities for multi-disciplinary exposure are designed to prepare fellows for an increasingly integrated practice environment, and include:

  • Providing consultation to referring services
  • Patient rounding with ICU teams
  • Shadowing in outpatient clinics
  • Observing in operating rooms
  • Observing in bronchoscopy suites

Research

A portion of each fellow’s schedule is reserved for academic pursuits, including guided research projects, preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and crafting presentations for national meetings. In addition, fellows are exposed to opportunities in emerging environments, such as electronic media. Cleveland Clinic's Imaging Institute and Center for Medical Art and Photography are available for support in all academic endeavors.

Didactics

Staff provide didactic conferences throughout the fellowship year (average 1 per week).

Schedule

  • Vacation: 15 days per year
  • Weekend Call: 1 weekend per month
  • Dedicated cardiovascular imaging time: 3 four-week dedicated cardiac imaging blocks with focus on CT

The Section of Thoracic Imaging is offering up to two 1-year fellowship positions for July 2013 - June 2014. To apply, please print out and complete the Thoracic and Cardiac Imaging Fellowship Application and submit it along with a personal statement, curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference to the Fellowship Program Director and Coordinator email contact information below. Applicants are encouraged to obtain an Ohio medical license, DEA number, and be ABR eligible prior to the beginning of fellowship.
