Cleveland Clinic Employment

In June 2003, Cleveland Clinic nurses received Magnet Status, the highest national award for excellence in nursing, granted to only 2 percent of the nation’s 6,000 hospitals. With a current vacancy rate less than 10 percent, Cleveland Clinic’s shortage of nurses is below the national average, which exceeds 13 percent. Nevertheless, the need for registered nurses remains critical and nurses are expected to be a focus of recruitment well into the future.

Cleveland Clinic has been named consistently by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top hospitals in the United States, and the largest and most respected center in the nation for heart-related surgery. As a large research and teaching hospital, Cleveland Clinic offers nurses opportunities to work on the cutting edge of nursing care, using state-of-the-art technology and new treatment options, and having at hand a broad spectrum of support to affect nursing practice and improve patient care.

The Clinic’s already diverse core of nurses has earned the coveted Magnet Status, demonstrating that nurses have a voice at Cleveland Clinic in setting nursing practice standards and making changes to improve patient outcomes.

In addition, Cleveland Clinic offers a tuition assistance program in return for a work commitment upon graduation for nursing students, flexible and individualized orientation and work schedules, good collaborative relationships with medical staff and the opportunity to work in a setting that emphasizes strong basic science and clinical research.

Cleveland Clinic offers new registered nurses a great scope of basic experience in a top-ranked hospital, and it offers experienced nurses the opportunity to pursue a clinical specialty of their choice—be it research, education, medical specialty or technology, among others.

Unlimited Professional Growth

Many nurses who come to Cleveland Clinic think they will stay only one or two years and get a good basic nursing experience before moving on to a hospital closer to home or in another state. But once at Cleveland Clinic, many nurses stay. They stay because the work is challenging, they are supported in pursuing their clinical interests and the team environment is rewarding-they find that it is truly a place to build a career. No nurse is locked into practicing in one field of nursing.

Nurse recruiters at Cleveland Clinic emphasize that the Clinic offers a wide range of nursing jobs that specialty nurses can practice within including clinical nurse specialist, certified nurse anesthetist, and other advanced practice nursing programs. Nurse recruiters tell interested applicants the truth: The door is wide open to advance within the nursing system at Cleveland Clinic and any nurse can specialize in any clinical specialty he or she desires.

Shared governance is practiced on many nursing units and all registered nurses with an idea for advancing patient care or nursing practice have the opportunity to have a mentor help them through the process.

As Cleveland Clinic emphasis on nurse recruitment continues, nurse recruiters will increase efforts nationally to bring potential nurses and student nurses the outstanding benefits of nursing practice at Cleveland Clinic.
