As a critical care medicine fellow, you will attend weekly, bi-monthly and monthly lectures, conferences, rounds and workshops covering an assortment of critical care topics.

Critical Care Medicine Series (Weekly)

This series includes formal lectures by staff, board review questions, workshops, journal article reviews and examining cases of the month.

Critical Care Education Day (Every Month)

Education Day is a full day conference based on a specific critical care theme or topic (e.g., mechanical ventilation) pulled from critical care medicine where we invite nationally recognized critical care professors to lecture and interact with our fellows.

Journal Club (Monthly)

Two fellows present one paper each under the direction of a faculty host.

Morbidity & Mortality Conferences (Monthly and Bi-monthly)

Two to three teaching cases are chosen by staff and discussed by fellows and attending staff during the monthly M&M conference, which is attended by all fellows. The second M&M conference is attended by all fellows on the MICU rotation and includes review of all cases during the past two weeks.

Critical Care Simulation Training (Three to Four Times Annually)

These four-hour workshops are aimed at improving fellows’ procedural skills and include central line insertion, airway management, ultrasound chest tube placement, bronchoscopy and trauma procedures in our state of the art simulation lab.

Fundamentals of Critical Care Support (Three to Four Times Annually)

Fellows are trained in becoming instructors and will participate in course preparation and teaching lectures during these two-day courses, which cover several critical care medicine topics.

Research Day (Annual)

Fellows will present ideas for research projects, or current findings in their research projects, to colleagues and staff.

Society of Critical Care Medicine National Conference (Annually)

Fellows are encouraged to attend this conference and can be given an allowance by the Respiratory Institute to attend each year.
