Along with primary care pediatrics, we provide specialized care in the areas of neonatology, pediatric cardiology, pediatric endocrinology, pediatric gastroenterology and more.

Pediatric Cardiology
For pediatric patients with suspected heart conditions, Cleveland Clinic Children's provides pediatric cardiology services at Fairview Hospital's Heart Center. Our pediatric cardiologists diagnose and treat a variety of pediatric and congenital heart diseases and defects.
With a physician's referral, our pediatric cardiologists can provide cardiac evaluations of infants and children. If needed, our team also performs echocardiograms/heart ultrasounds. For this noninvasive procedure, we encourage parents to stay with their child. The test involves using a small “camera” on the child’s chest where the cardiologist can look at their heart and evaluate how it's functioning. Afterwards, the child's evaluation is discussed with their parents and referring physician.

Pediatric Inpatient Unit
A child’s illness or injury is difficult for everyone involved. If your child is admitted to Fairview Hospital, our 24-bed Pediatric Inpatient Unit offers comprehensive care to make their hospital stay more relaxed and help put your fears at rest. The unit is staffed 24 hours a day by physicians and nurses who specialize in pediatric healthcare.
Pediatric Subspecialists
Pediatric subspecialists are available to treat the specific needs of your child. Our staff includes pediatric specialists in the fields of cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, pulmonology and more.
Clinical Nurse Specialists
Clinical nurse specialists are available to work closely with children, their families and hospital staff. These specialists coordinate patient care, advise on holistic care and facilitate educational efforts.
Child Life Specialists
Cleveland Clinic Children's Child Life Specialists are health professionals who assist children, adolescents and their families as they prepare for and cope with pediatric medical and emotional experiences, such as surgery, hospitalization, tests and procedures. We’ve discovered that when children understand what is happening to them, they cope more effectively and experience less psychological trauma and anxiety. Our Child Life Specialists are trained in child development, child life, education and psychology.

NICU
Fairview Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is part of Cleveland Clinic Children's Division of Neonatology.
Expectant mothers should talk to their doctor about where they should deliver their baby and what type of care can be provided if any complications occur. Our Level III NICU has a medical staff that's trained and prepared for the unexpected.
Level III NICU
The Level III designation by the Ohio Department of Health certifies that our NICU offers the highest degree of quality care for at-risk newborns.
Our modern and comfortable 26-bed NICU features advanced equipment for monitoring sick and premature newborns, providing the full range of neonatal treatment. Skilled neonatologists direct the Fairview NICU, with the assistance of a staff of experienced pediatric professionals.
Our nursing team provides expert and compassionate care from delivery through discharge, providing parents with in-depth education on infant care, feeding, health concerns and home care needs. Nurses follow up after discharge on the phone or in person to make sure that everything is going well. In addition, we have social workers that are well versed in meeting the special needs of families with an infant in the unit.
Level III nurseries
Level III nurseries provide the widest variety of advanced care available for all newborns. Regulated at the state level, only Level III NICUs have the life-saving treatments and technologies to care for the full gamut of patients -- from normal to extremely ill.
Womb-like environment
Fairview Hospital's NICU staff have completed advanced developmental training called "Wee Care." As a result, a womb-like environment has been simulated in the Fairview nursery. With a keen awareness of preemies' hypersensitivity to the environment, dim-lighting, reduced noise levels, special bedding and skin-to-skin contact between parent and child helps babies spend more time growing and developing. Overall, the program leads to healthier babies that go home earlier.
Sick infants need to bond with their parents while they are being treated. That's why we offer "Kangaroo Care," skin-to-skin contact between the child and parent which allows parents to interact closely with their babies. Experts believe that this physical contact helps with the healing process.
We also carefully screen all of our newborn patients. If we find an infant is at risk for developmental delays, the Fairview NICU can provide both physical and occupational therapy to help overcome these potential problems. This developmental care can continue after the baby leaves the NICU, if necessary.
Family approach
Fairview Hospital has a four-bed Developmental Nursery for babies who are approaching their discharge date. This nursery is a quiet, carpeted environment that provides a relaxing haven for babies and their parents. Prior to a newborn's discharge, parents may stay in our Family Room or Nic-Nook. The home-like atmosphere of this room — low lighting, sofa bed, infant bathing sink, TV and a shower — helps parents care for their baby and prepare for the trip home. Siblings can also visit and spend time with their family's new addition.
Neonatal Transport Team
If a baby is experiencing difficulties at an area hospital that is not well equipped to handle acute care, our Neonatal Transport Team can bring the infant quickly and safely to Fairview Hospital to help assure they have the specialty care they need.
