Education & Residency

The Pharmacy Practice Residency is a one-year postgraduate training program which provides residents with a foundation in pharmacotherapy, pharmacy operations and practice management skills in the acute care setting. Upon completion of the residency program, the resident will be prepared for a position as a clinical pharmacist, a decentralized pharmacist, or a candidate for specialized training.

Areas of focus include internal medicine, drug information, critical care, oncology, administration and pharmacy practice. Residents will gain teaching experience while precepting advanced practice pharmacy students and providing education to the clinical staff.

Residents will have the opportunity to perfect formal and informal presentation skills through the following:

  • Bimonthly journal clubs
  • Bimonthly case presentations
  • Continuing education
  • Drug Utilization Evaluations at Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
  • Community Service Outreach
  • Professional meetings: Ohio Pharmacy Residency Conference, ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Ohio College of Clinical Pharmacy

Longitudinal committee involvement includes Pharmacy and Therapeutics and Medication Safety. Original research is completed under the guidance of a qualified preceptor. The Marymount clinical team tailors the residency to meet the needs and interests of the resident.
