K.V. Gopalakrishna, MD, FIDSA, FACP
Chair, Department of Medicine
Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency

Committed to excellence in medical education, the Internal Medicine Residency Program instills confidence in the future internist to provide exceptional care in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. We strive to expand medical knowledge with the development of clinical skills and the fundamentals of medical research.

There are 36 categorical residents and two preliminary residents in the program that are supervised by full-time, part-time and volunteer faculty members. The majority of faculty admits most of their patients to Fairview Hospital as their offices are close to the campus.

Advanced Hospital Campus

Fairview Hospital was established on the West Side of Cleveland in 1892. The internal medicine residency program was approved in 1962. Fairview's 517-bed hospital has a significant number of admissions to the teaching medical service. Medical residents follow the patients admitted to medical floors, critical care and coronary care units.

Key Affiliations

Fairview Hospital is a member of the world renowned Cleveland Clinic Health System (CCHS). Our medical school affiliation is with Case Western Reserve University.

Supportive Faculty and Staff

Medical residents are supervised by two associate program directors and 91 full and part-time faculty members. In addition, many of the community physicians donate time to train our residents.

Successful Alumni

Our residency program was established in 1962 at Lutheran Hospital. The first graduates received their diplomas in 1965. Many of these physicians remain in the Cleveland area and are practicing at Fairview and other hospitals. Others pursued fellowships and returned to Cleveland to set-up practice or joined as hospitalists. Our graduates practice in every part of the United States.
