What is theStatus.com?
When someone is ill or hospitalized, keeping friends and family informed about the patient’s condition and care can be difficult for the family. theStatus.com is a FREE, web-based service that was created to help during these difficult times.
theStatus.com is a private, secure and confidential website for communicating important information such as:
- Information about the Patient: Name, care location, email address, phone number, visiting hours and if the patient is accepting visitors or phone calls
- Patient background information
- News Updates: Up-to-the-minute information about the patient
- “Emotional Medicine”: Messages of support and encouragement to patients and their families from concerned visitors to the web page
- Important Links to other web pages that contain information about the patient’s condition or anything of interest
- Photos and/or personal stories: Add a loving, personal touch to be shared privately with your invited guests
Available in multiple languages
theStatus.com is currently available in English and Spanish, with more languages to come.
Is theStatus.com really free?
Yes. theStatus.com is sponsored by the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute and is provided FREE for our patients, their family and friends.
- We will NOT share or sell any of your information to outside parties.
- You will NOT be signed up to receive unwanted emails or newsletters.
- There are NO click-through or pop-up ads or advertisements of any kind on our website.
The service is funded by private donations and organizational sponsorships.
What about security and privacy?
At theStatus.com, you choose the level of security for your patient website. We offer encryption and password protection to ensure privacy and security so that information on your web page will not be accessible to unauthorized parties.
How do I create a page?
This information sheet provides some detailed information about creating and editing your page, but the process is simple. The set-up wizard guides you through the process, which only takes a few minutes.
Before you begin, please make sure you have permission from the patient to build the web page. You will be asked to confirm that you are creating the web page with the patient’s consent.
Using any computer with internet access and a web browser (such as Internet Explorer, Foxfire or Safari), go to www.thestatus.com. Click on “Get Started” to fill in the patient information and create a profile. Next, click on “Create a New Page” and follow the instructions.

Page access and control
The person who sets up the page is in control of the page (the Admin). The only way guests can access the patient’s web page is by responding to an email that contains a link to the page. The Admin can invite guests, or individuals may request an invitation by visiting theStatus.com.
To send an invitation, the Admin must click “Invite” and then “Invite Friends.” Enter the desired names and email addresses, then click “Add.”
Once the information is added to the box, click “Next.” Then, choose the level of page access to grant each guest by checking the appropriate box: Can View (guest can only view the page), Can Invite (guest can invite others to join) or Admin (guest has full access and control).
Once the level of access for each person is chosen, click “Send Invites” to send an automated email that includes a link to the patient’s page.
Each guest signs up for page access using their email address and their own password.
What’s next?
The Admin can provide information and updates on the patient’s care and health status as often as desired. When making changes to the page, be sure to choose “Admin” from the drop- down menu on the right-hand side of the page.
Visitors can leave messages. Writing notes and well wishes to the patient and family provides encouragement and “emotional medicine.”
Patients and family members can check the web page at home or while in the hospital. Free public computers are available for use in the family waiting lounges and in the Patient and Family Health Education Center (First floor, Q1-2).
Your page will remain posted and sponsored by Cleveland Clinic for six months. After that, you may choose to keep your page, delete your page or switch to a non-sponsored page that is still free, but has advertising links on the pages.
