Refer a Patient

The Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic strives to ensure prompt management of all patients and timely responses to our referring physician and health care professional colleagues.

We provide several options for physicians and health care professionals seeking to refer a patient.

Referring to a Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute cardiologist

Via phone: Please call our scheduling offices at 216.444.6697 or 800.223.2273, ext. 46697 (outside of the Cleveland area) - between the hours of 8am and 5 pm (eastern standard time), Monday through Friday. You may also search our Staff Directory to locate and select one of our cardiologists and contact them directly.

Referring to a Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute vascular medicine specialist

Please use our Referral Checklist to ensure that you have all of the necessary information to easily refer your patient.  New patients, in most cases, can be seen by a cardiologist  or a vascular medicine specialist within one week of calling for an appointment.

  • Cardiothoracic Surgeon: Please call the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, toll-free at 877.843.2781 (877-8Heart1) or search our Staff Directory to locate and select one of our surgeons and contact them directly - between the hours of 8am and 5pm (eastern standard time), Monday through Friday. At other times, you may call Patient Access Services at 216.444.8302 or 800.553.5056. This is a direct-access, 24-hour phone line for physicians with patients who need to be admitted to our facility.
  • Thoracic Surgery: Please call the Department of Thoracic Surgery toll free at 800.223.2273 (ext 56850) or search our Staff Directory to select one of our surgeons. They may be contacted directly between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm (EST), Monday through Friday.  At other times, call Patient Access Services at 216.444.8302 or 800.553.5056. This is a direct access, 24 hour phone line for physicians with patients who require admission to our facility.
  • Vascular Surgeon: Please call the Department of Vascular Surgery Main Campus office, toll-free at  1.800.223.2273 ext 44508 or 216.444.4508.  For other Vascular Surgeons in the department outside of the Main Campus at  Hillcrest, Marymount, Fairview Hospitals please search our Staff Directory to locate and select one of our surgeons and contact them directly - between the hours of 8am and 5pm (eastern standard time), Monday through Friday. At other times, you may call Patient Access Services at 216.444.8302 or 800.553.5056. This is a direct-access, 24-hour phone line for physicians with patients who need to be admitted to our facility

Patient Transfers
  • Cardiology and vascular medicine patients: Call Patient Access Hospital Transfer Services at 216.444.8302 or 800.553.5056. This is a direct-access, 24-hour phone line for physicians with patients who need to be transferred from their hospitals to our facility.
  • Cardiothoracic surgery patients: Call our Nurse Practice Managers at 216.444.2200, beeper 25910 or 800.223.2273, beeper 25910 (outside of the Cleveland area) between the hours of 8am and 5pm (eastern standard time), Monday through Friday. At other times, you may call Patient Access Services at 216.444.8302 or 800.553.5056. 
  • Thoracic surgery patients: Call Patient Access Service at 216.444.8302 or 800.553.5056.  This is direct access, 24 hour phone line for physicians who need to have patients transferred from their hospitals to our facility.
  • Vascular surgery patients: Call Patient Access Hospital Transfer Services at 216.444.8302 or 800.553.5056. This is a direct-access, 24-hour phone line for physicians with patients who need to be transferred from their hospitals to our facility.
  • Direct to physician: You may also search our Staff Directory to locate and select one of our cardiologists, vascular medicine specialists or surgeons and contact them directly. Our 216.444.2200 or 800.223.2273 (outside of Cleveland) operator-assisted number will connect you with any physician’s office. You may also call Patient Access Hospital Transfer Services at 216.444.8302 or 800.553.5056. This direct-access, 24-hour phone line can also connect you to a Cleveland Clinic physician.
Critical Care Transport Worldwide

Cleveland Clinic’s critical care transport team serves critically ill and highly complex patients across the globe. The transport fleet comprises mobile ICU vehicles, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. The transport teams are staffed by physicians, critical care nurse practitioners, critical care nurses, paramedics and ancillary staff, and are customized to meet the needs of the patient. Critical care transport is available for children and adults.

To arrange a transfer for STEMI (ST elevated myocardial infarction), acute stroke, ICH (intracerebral hemorrhage), SAH (subarachnoid hemorrhage) or aortic syndromes, call 877.279.CODE (2633). For all other transfers, call 216.444.8302 or 800.553.5056.

Online Access to Your Patient's Treatment Progress

Whether you are referring from near or far, our new eCleveland Clinic service, DrConnect, can streamline communication from Cleveland Clinic physicians to your office. This new online tool offers you secure access to your patient’s treatment progress at Cleveland Clinic. Special Assistance for Out-of-State Patients

The Cleveland Clinic’s Medical Concierge program is a complimentary service for patients who travel to Cleveland Clinic from outside Ohio. Our patient care representatives facilitate and coordinate the scheduling of multiple medical appointments; provide access to discounts on airline tickets and hotels, when available; make reservations for hotel or housing accommodations; and arrange leisure activities.
