Juan J Nogueras MD Named Chief of Staff at Cleveland Clinic Florida

Juan J. Nogueras, MD, FACS, FASCRS, a board certified colorectal surgeon, has been appointed Chief of Staff for Cleveland Clinic Florida. He previously served as Chief Medical Officer for the renowned academic medical center, which has a staff of nearly 180 physicians representing 35 medical specialties.
As Chief of Staff, Dr. Nogueras will be more intimately involved with recruitment and credentialing, the annual professional review processes, hospital operations and the development of policies and procedures to enhance patient care.

A staff physician with Cleveland Clinic Florida since 1991, Dr. Nogueras most recently served as Chief Medical Officer. In that position, he oversaw operational efficiencies, including operating room and supply chain efficiencies, strategic planning, hospital quality measures and community medical staff affairs. He also served as Chairman of the Division of Surgery for eight years.
Dr. Nogueras specializes in the treatment of colon and rectal cancer, inherited colorectal cancer, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, fecal incontinence, and benign anorectal diseases. Notably, Dr. Nogueras was Cleveland Clinic’s principal investigator in the development of the artificial bowel sphincter, a device that has helped many patients with severe fecal incontinence. He has published more than 160 manuscripts on topics including surgical treatment and management of Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis, pre-operative staging of rectal cancer and treatment of hereditary colon cancer.
Dr. Nogueras received his undergraduate education at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J., and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City and a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He served as a surgeon in the U.S. Army Medical Corps.
Certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Dr. Nogueras is a member of several professional associations and societies. They include the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, International Society of University Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. He is also an honorary member of eight medical societies across Latin America.
