Laser vision correction surgery, also known as refractive surgery, refers to a range of techniques that modify the shape of the cornea to improve vision. About 12 years ago, the only refractive procedure available in the United States was radial keratotomy, which involved using a knife to make a series of incisions in the cornea. Today, a wide range of procedures is available. LASIK and PRK are the most common laser vision correction surgeries performed.
