Research and Innovations

The physicians and scientist in the Endocrine and Metabolism Institute are committed to doing research that advances the treatment of diseases and improves the care of patients. These studies include investigations of new treatments for diabetes and other endocrine disorders, newer surgical approaches to parathyroid and thyroid conditions radiofrequency ablation of liver tumors, and surgical and medical management of obesity.

Type 2 Diabetes
  • A research study to test an investigational medication
  • Looking for men and women age 25 and over with Type 2 diabetes
  • Individuals who have developed kidney disease as a result of diabetes may qualify
Stampede
  • Randomized trial comparing medical treatment with surgery
  • Individuals with Type II diabetes between 20 and 60 may qualify
  • Must have HbA1c greater than 7.5%
  • Must have mild to moderate obesity (~30-70 pounds overweight)
Versartis Study (Growth Hormone Deficiency)
  • Adult patients with GHD
  • Patients currently taking or not taking daily GH therapy
Acro Study (Acromegaly)
  • Observational Study
  • Patients with Acromegaly
  • Must not require surgical treatment for pituitary tumor
Hypo CCS
  • Observational study of human growth deficiency
  • Adults with a diagnosis of a pituitary disorder may qualify
  • Must not have a diagnosis of cancer
CLCI (Cushings Disease)
  • Studying the safety and efficacy of a 10 week treatment for patients with Cushings Disease
  • Endogenous Hypercortisolism to increase ACTH production from the pituitary
  • Must have confirmed Cushings Disease
Tecos
  • Trial evaluating cardiovascular outcomes with sitagliptin in patients with Type 2 diabetes
  • Age 50 and older
  • HbA1C of 6.5-8.0%
  • Previous Cardiovascular Disease
Excel
  • Trial evaluating cardiovascular outcomes with sitagliptin in patients with Type 2 Diabetes
  • Age 18 and older
  • HbA1C of 7.0-10.0%
  • Previous Cardiovascular Disease
GST (Healthy Volunteers Needed)
  • Age 18 to 80 years old
  • Study involves 2 Glucagon Stimulation Tests, 1 Insulin Tolerance Test (if you are <65 years old ) and 1 ACTH Stimulation Test ( if you are >65 years old )
DIADE 2
  • Age 20 to 45 years old
  • Diagnosed with Type1 Diabetes within the past five months
  • Started insulin at diagnosis
  • Purpose is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an investigational medication on slowing or stopping the progression of Type1 Diabetes
GFRF
  • Looking for Men and Women with Diabetic Kidney Disease
  • Type1 and Type2 Diabetics
  • Women <50 years of age must have had a hysterectomy
  • Men and Women >25 years of age with a diagnosis of Type1 or Type2 diabetes mellitus.
