Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Personalized Healthcare recently launched one of their enterprise-wide initiatives. The Personalized Medication Program, which employs Best Practice Alerts, integrates pharmacogenetics into standard of care at Cleveland Clinic, and reduces cost of care by avoiding duplications in testing.
Bladder cancer tumors in patients with a specific inherited genetic variation express prostate stem cell antigen (PSCA). PSCA is also expressed in some prostate and pancreatic cancers. Treatment that targets PSCA is currently being studied in prostate and pancreatic cancers, but may also improve the treatment of bladder cancer.
Cleveland Clinic Celebrates Personal Healthcare Month
November 2012 was declared Personal Healthcare Month by the governor of Ohio, John Kasich, as well as the Ohio Senate and House of Representatives. At the heart of the proclamation of Personal Healthcare Month is the recognition that preventing disease, diagnosing disease early and customizing therapeutic interventions provide for better outcomes and quality of care for individuals, often times at a lower cost to the patient and the healthcare system. Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Personalized Healthcare celebrated by hosting several events, including information tables at main campus and other regional facilities. The Center also sponsored a health talk by local chef Rocco Whalen. We thank everyone who attended these events. If you wish to receive the recipes featured at the health talk, please email cphinfo@ccf.org with recipes in the subject line.
