Scott M. Simmons, MBA, Senior Director Office of Professional Staff Affairs

Scott is responsible for establishing an Office of Professional Staff Affairs for Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the new 360-bed hospital Cleveland Clinic is opening in the United Arab Emirates. Scott joined Cleveland Clinic and was part of the Office of Physician Recruitment from 2006 to 2012 until assuming his role in Abu Dhabi. Additionally, Scott has over 16 years of private industry experience as the president and owner of two different regional medical staffing and recruiting firms and for eight years prior was an environmental chemist working with the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Environmental Resources. Scott earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and his Bachelor of Science degree in biology & chemistry from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.

Lauren Forst, Director of Regional Physician Recruitment

Lauren joined the Cleveland Clinic Office of Physician Recruitment in 2005 as a physician recruiter and has been a Director in the department since 2010. Lauren has oversight on a variety of physician and advanced practice recruitment projects. Specialty areas of interest include Emergency Medicine, Hospital Medicine, and strategic development of new recruitment projects. Lauren is an involved member of the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (ASPR) and currently serves as Chair of the Ethics Committee. Previous involvement includes the Vice President and Treasurer of Academic In-House Recruiters (AIR). Lauren holds a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Psychology from Cleveland State University and is a Fellow of the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters.

Lauren E. Judd, MBA, Director, Advanced Practice Recruitment

In 2005 Lauren received her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Administration from Ohio University, and in 2012 earned an MBA with a concentration in Health Administration from Cleveland State University. Lauren joined the Cleveland Clinic Office of Physician Recruitment in 2008 and focuses her recruitment efforts on Imaging (All Radiology Specialties), Emergency Services, Head & Neck, Quality & Patient Safety (Environmental Health), and Digestive Disease (General and Acute Care Surgery). Lauren currently heads the team providing recruitment of Advanced Practice providers’ enterprise wide. She also serves on the leadership committee of the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (ASPR), and as Treasurer of AIR (Academic In-House Recruiters). She is the former Executive Director for a Dermatology & Integrative Medicine Center in Medina, Ohio. Lauren’s professional experience and continual educational endeavors have provided her with an excellent understanding and knowledge of the Healthcare Industry.

Jennifer Kambies, MBA, Director Special Initiatives

Jen has been working as an in-house staff physician recruiter since 2004. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Ohio University in 2002 and a MBA with a Healthcare Management focus from Regis University in 2008. She has been working at Cleveland Clinic in the Office of Physician Recruitment since 2007. Prior to her employment at Cleveland Clinic she was a physician liaison at DeKalb Medical in Decatur, GA handling physician recruitment and retention issues for physicians in the community. Jen manages the recruitment process for several specialties: Bioethics, Medicine Institute (Geriatrics, and General Internal Medicine ); Neurological Institute ( Physical Medical and Rehabilitation and Spine); Center for Connected Care (House Calls, SNF/LTAC and Cleveland Clinic Hospice) and Taussig Cancer Institute (Regional Oncology and Radiation Oncology). Additionally, Jen has oversight of the Resident and Fellow and Diversity Recruitment Initiatives. Jen is an active member in Academic In-House Recruiter’s Network (AIR) and Association of Physician Recruiters (ASPR). She currently holds a leadership role with AIR.

Michelle Seifert, Director of Main Campus Physician Recruitment

Michelle has been with Cleveland Clinic in physician recruitment since the inception of the department in 2001 and enjoys the challenges of recruiting for all specialties throughout the enterprise. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic, she was the Manager of Corporate Development and Director of Financial Reporting for an affiliate of Team Health. Her scope of responsibilities included New Business Ventures, Acquisition Analysis, Financial Reporting, Recruitment and Marketing. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Accounting and currently holds a non-practicing active CPA license in the State of Ohio. She is also a Fellow and active Board member of Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (ASPR) as well as Academic In-House Recruiter’s Network (AIR) and has held leadership roles with the group since its inception in 2008.

Keith Cederlund, Senior Physician Recruiter

Keith joined the Cleveland Clinic in 2012 and worked in Human Resources (HR). He had the opportunity to on-board new hires, gained tremendous knowledge of the HR systems, and problem solved various issues across the Enterprise. One of his major areas of responsibility was working with the Office of Physician Recruitment (OPR). Keith facilitated the recruitment process of Advanced Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants. He was promoted in HR into a Recruiter role where he gained additional knowledge and was able recruit top talent for many institutes. Keith’s ability to form strong relationships with the areas he worked with as well as his attention to detail made him the ideal candidate to work in the Office of Physician Recruitment. He started with the OPR team in January 2016 and will have responsibilities recruiting advanced practice candidates, physician candidates as well as participate in the resident/fellow initiative.

Sandy Fedor, Senior Physician Recruiter

Sandy has been a CCF caregiver since 2007 and joined our office in 2010. Upon graduating from Cleveland State University with her Bachelors degree, Sandy worked in the healthcare industry in Human Resources and Recruitment. Her current recruitment areas focus in the Neurological, Orthopaedic and Digestive Disease and Surgery Institute extending services to Rehab and Sports Therapy, Midlevel and physician recruitment areas. When not at work, Sandy enjoys cooking/baking, entertaining and hiking.

Vincent E. Kovacic, Senior Physician Recruiter

Vince joined Cleveland Clinic in 2007. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Rhetoric and Communication from Kent State University. Vince began his career at Cleveland Clinic in the Ombudsman Office where he investigated, documented and resolved concerns from patients and family members as well as provided assistance to Caregivers across the enterprise. Until 2013, he had been a Physician Liaison working directly with the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute, the Digestive Disease and Surgery Institute, the Sleep Center and the Taussig Cancer Institute doing physician outreach with referring physicians. In this role he grew patient referrals to Cleveland Clinic. Vince is proud to work for a world-class medical institution.

Michael Palinchik, Senior Physician Recruiter

Michael graduated from University of Toledo in 2002 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic's Office of Physician Recruitment in October 2011, he recruited individuals in the education field for Medical, Legal and Business occupations. Michael enjoys recruiting because he is committed and enthusiastic about assisting individuals find opportunities that will benefit them both professionally and personally. He will be recruiting a broad range of physician specialties and focusing on recruitment of mid-level providers enterprise wide.

Michelle Abbott, MBA, Physician Recruiter

Michelle received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Administration from Bowling Green State University in 2005. In 2012, she received her Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Administration from Baldwin Wallace University. Michelle has had the pleasure of being an employee of Cleveland Clinic since 2006. For the first 11 years of her career at Cleveland Clinic, she worked extensively with the Neurological Institute Graduate Medical Education training programs and managed the Institute’s Program Coordinators. In 2017, Michelle joined the Office of Physician Recruitment. She recruits for physicians on the domestic side at Cleveland Clinic’s Main Campus, Regional Hospitals and Family Health Centers, and Cleveland Clinic Florida. Michelle also provides international recruitment support for Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Cleveland Clinic London.

Katie Bowser, Physician Recruiter

Katie joined the Office of Physician Recruitment in November of 2015, as part of the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD) recruitment team. She manages physician recruitment for Imaging, Eye, Respiratory/Critical Care, and the Digestive Disease and Surgery Institute. Prior to the Cleveland Clinic, Katie worked as a Retail Director and brings 9 years of experience in customer service, relationship management, sales and marketing. Katie graduated from The University of Akron in 2007 with a Bachelor of Art degree. She enjoys staying active and volunteering at the Cleveland APL (fur-get-me not telethon), and for Charles Bowlus Charities Inc., a Nonprofit organization that provides support for local organizations, who assist those individuals and families dealing with cancer, health & wellness, women and children.

Grace Caplan, Physician Recruiter

Grace began working at Cleveland Clinic in January of 2015, as a Human Resources Associate at Lakewood and Lutheran Hospital. She joined the team of ONE HR in February 2017 as an HR Service Center Representative where she assisted the entire enterprise with general Human Resources (HR) inquiries. Grace joined the Physician Recruitment team in May of 2017. Her responsibilities include Advanced Practice recruitment and the onboarding of all Advanced Practice, Pharmacists, and Rehab & Sports Therapy candidates. She is a key component in coordinating OPR recruitment initiatives, one of the biggest being the annual APRN/PA/CRNA Spring and Fall Open House. She also provides ongoing training and support for hiring managers utilizing Workday and understanding the recruitment process.

Nathan Elting, Physician Recruiter

Nathan joined Cleveland Clinic’s Office of Physician Recruitment in 2012. Prior to that he recruited finance and accounting professionals for a variety of industries throughout Northeast Ohio. Nathan is a 1998 Ohio University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration. He has strengthened his career with more than 15 years experience in project management, customer relationship management, sales and marketing. Since joining Cleveland Clinic, he has focused on the recruitment for many specialties within the Neurological Institute, Orthopaedic and Rheumatologic Institute, Medicine Institute and Wellness & Preventive Medicine. He enjoys working with the Resident and Fellow Initiative providing career counseling, CV review and preparation and initial contract reviews.

Becky Holmes, Physician Recruiter

Becky joined the Office of Physician Recruitment in January 2016. She handles recruitment efforts for physicians as well as advanced practice providers. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Akron in E-Marketing/Advertising in 2005. Prior to joining The Cleveland Clinic, Becky established over 13 years of marketing, customer service and entrepreneurial experience.

Emily Craig, Administrative Program Coordinator

Emily serves as the department’s onboarding specialist. She is responsible for organizing and facilitating Cleveland Clinic’s onboarding procedures for new Advanced Practice Providers and enjoys interacting with them as they begin their new role within an organization committed to providing world-class care. Emily graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2015 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Healthcare Administration. Prior to joining the Cleveland Clinic’s Office of Physician Recruitment in November 2018, she held an Administrative role with University Hospitals where she earned her Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification.

Karen Stanek, Administrative Program Coordinator

Karen joined the Office of Physician Recruitment team in January 2016, supporting Senior Leadership with coordinating projects and the department’s day-to-day activities. With over 30-years of Cleveland Clinic experience in such departments as Pain Management, Radiation Oncology and most recently International Operations, Karen’s expertise and knowledge of Cleveland Clinic culture enhances the Office of Physician Recruitment.
