Each year, 1.4 million people in the United States are diagnosed with cancer, and 1.3 million will become cancer survivors. Unfortunately, another 600,000 will succumb to their disease. These figures emphasize the enormous strides we have made in treating cancer, and also how much work needs to be done.

Every day, Cleveland Clinic researchers and clinicians work in laboratories and at bedsides to improve the lives of cancer patients. As a result of their tireless efforts, new therapies, new technologies, and new approaches to treatment are introduced on a regular basis to offer sustaining hope to men, women, and children struggling with life-threatening cancers. Clearly, oncology is a dynamic discipline-it evolves moment by moment, driven by the talent, innovation, and dedication of world-class physicians. Without the constant infusion of fresh ideas, cancer information and perspectives from each new generation of physician scientists, cancer care would stagnate and cancer patients would be lost.
