Inclusion Criteria
Normal volunteers and patients with hematologic disorders (adults and children) evaluated and/or treated at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation will be the source of blood, surgical specimen and bone marrow.The normal volunteers will be recruited through an advertisement flyer to be posted in appropriated boards throughout the institution or inter-institutional publications such as Innerpulse (see Appendix A).
Patients include individuals with bone marrow failure syndromes, like aplastic anemia, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, myelodysplasia, Fanconi's anemia, and single lineage cytopenias.Patients with malignant disease include those with acute and chronic forms of leukemia, multiple myeloma, myelofibrosis. Patients with constitutional anemias include patients with thalassemia and sickle cell disease.Patients with immune-mediated processes include those with thrombocytopenic thrombotic purpura and idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.
