After months of feeling lethargic and with a family history of heart disease, I decided to take control of my health. This led me to the Cardiac Prevention Program at Cleveland Clinic Canada, where I worked with a collaborative team of specialists who helped me reduce my cardiac risk in only 12 weeks.

It all started with my case manager whose constant support and motivation helped me through the program. Regardless of where I was in North America, she would insure that we had our weekly status call. She was always enthusiastic and encouraging but also firm and direct when there was need to be.

Additional guidance and support was provided by my dietitian and my exercise physiologist. This was the first time in my life where someone developed a nutrition program that I could easily understand and implement. The program was 100 per cent appropriate for my lifestyle and surprisingly, I experienced almost no challenges sticking to it. The exercise physiologist developed an exercise program that perfectly met my needs – his explanation as to how my body works and how to get the best return on my exercise investment has me back in the gym most days. I have much more energy and feel great.

The team was rounded out by my cardiologist. His wise counsel and direct talk helped me understand the risks I faced and what I need to do to change them.

With their support and encouragement, I was able to lose 38 lbs, reduce my waist from 41 to 36 inches and reduce my blood pressure. Plus my current energy levels remind me of when I played football over 35 years ago!
