Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology Center Information

Part of Cleveland Clinic's Neurological Institute, the Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology Center (BTNC) is a nationally recognized leader in the diagnosis and treatment of primary and metastatic spine, nerve, and brain tumors, and their effects on the nervous system. Annually, the Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology Center physicians record over 7500 patient visits and performed more than 950 surgeries. The Center for Translational Therapeutics is accelerating the process of bringing novel therapeutic agents from the laboratory to the brain tumor patient, while maintaining the highest standards of both efficacy and safety in providing brain tumor treatments.

Gamma Knife

Working closely with Taussig Cancer Center, our team collaborates on comprehensive, individualized brain tumor treatment strategies for each patient, utilizing the most advanced diagnostic and treatment modalities including intraoperative MRI, stereotactic neurosurgery, Gamma Knife radiosurgery , NOVALIS and convection-enhanced delivery of therapeutic agents. Our Gamma Knife Center is one only a few training centers worldwide certified by its manufacturer for training of physicians and physicists new to Gamma Knife radiosurgery.

We were the second Center in the country to upgrade our equipment to the most technologically advanced model available, Elekta's Gamma Knife Perfexion, which allows treatment in a wider range of anatomical structures, improves treatment planning, increases patient comfort and reduces treatment time.

Physicians and scientists at Cleveland Clinic are also extending the scope of individualized patient care with advanced research into the genetic, cellular, and molecular biology of brain tumors. This knowledge will allow clinicians to determine the most effective brain tumor treatment based on an individual's specific tumor, thereby saving valuable treatment time.

Associate Director
Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology Center

The staff of the Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology Center not only strives to find and use the best combination of current treatments for each patient, but, in collaboration with our researchers, are actively working to investigate and develop new therapies to combat brain tumors.

This integration of clinical care with laboratory research fuels collaboration among physicians and scientists at the Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology Center , helping to translate brain tumor discoveries made in the lab into more effective treatments and better patient care.
