Using a variety of improvement techniques, Cleveland Clinic departments work together to maximize the work environment and processes involved in daily patient care. Projects are selected based on the needs of patients and their families, as well as employees.

Cleveland Clinic uses the following process improvement techniques:

  • 5S Philosophy: A process and method for creating and maintaining an organized, safe, clean and high performance workplace.
  • Lean: This process management philosophy is derived mostly from the Toyota Production System. Lean is renowned for its focus on reduction of the original Toyota “seven wastes” in order to improve overall customer value.
  • QBoards: This tool is designed to track departmental goals and targets by the employees who manage their own progress.
  • Fastrac©: This problem solving tool is built to rapidly solve problems utilizing the power of a team approach.
