About Daniel Raymond, MD

Daniel Raymond, MD, is a thoracic surgeon in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute at Cleveland Clinic. He is board-certified in general and thoracic surgery.

Specialty interests: Minimally invasive thoracic surgery, lung surgery, lung cancer, lung nodules, mediastinal surgery, chest wall surgery, esophageal surgery, surgical infectious disease, VATS lobectomy, and surgical quality.

Number of Procedures Performed: Cleveland Clinic performs more than 1,700 thoracic procedures each year.  All Cleveland Clinic thoracic surgeons complete between 350-450 thoracic cases per year. 

Success rates: Cleveland Clinic thoracic surgeons perform more than 2,000 general thoracic procedures each year.to treat patients with a wide range of conditions, including lung, esophageal, chest wall, pleural, tracheal, mediastinal, foregut and diaphragm disease. Cleveland Clinic contributes to the Society of Thoracic Surgery Database in order to maintain the highest possible standards. Education and Training: Dr. Raymond completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania, and earned his medical degree from the State University of New York Health Science Center, Syracuse. He completed a surgical residency, a research fellowship, and a surgical infectious disease fellowship at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center, Charlottesville. Dr. Raymond completed his training with a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, Philadelphia.

Following his training, Dr. Raymond was an assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Thoracic and Foregut Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center, NY. He participated in several committees, including the Antibiotic Subcommittee, Quality Assurance Committee, Hospital Therapeutics Committee, and was the Compliance Officer for the Department of Surgery.

Dr. Raymond moved to Cleveland in 2011 to join the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at Cleveland Clinic. In addition to his clinical activities, he is the Quality Officer for thoracic surgery, the Co-Director of the Lung Cancer Tumor Board, and a member of the Cancer Executive Committee, Clinical Competency Committee, Surgical Quality Committee, Disaster Triage Officer, and Tracheostomy Committee.

Publications and Speaking: Dr. Raymond has more than 85 published articles and abstracts and twelve medical textbook chapters to his credit.
