Biography

About Francois Bethoux, MD

Francois Bethoux, MD, serves as the Director of Rehabilitation Services at the Cleveland Clinic Mellen Center. He was born in 1964 in Paris, France. He completed his medical studies and residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Lyon, France. After moving to the United States to complete a Neuroimmunology fellowship at the Mellen Center for Multiple Sclerosis Treatment and Research (affiliated with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation), he remained on staff and today serves as the Director of Rehabilitation Services. 

Dr. Bethoux's research interests include outcomes measurements in both general and multiple sclerosis (MS)-specific neurorehabilitation, gait analysis and evaluation of symptomatic therapies and rehabilitative interventions for spasticity in MS and other disorders of the central nervous system.

Innovations & Patents

  • Participated in the design and testing of a new leg brace (hip flexion assist orthosis) in patients with multiple sclerosis. A pilot study of the brace was funded by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The results of the study were accepted for publication in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Patients with hip flexor weakness using the brace have experienced significant improvement of walking performance and leg strength.

Dr. Bethoux is absolutely wonderful. He is highly skilled at what he does and is pleasant, compassionate & always focused on getting ultimate results. He works closely with Michelle's physical therapist who has a 22 yr. history with Michelle to ensure that optimal amounts of Botox are injected into the appropriate muscles.

Twelve years after the news cameras are gone and people forget you and your injuries, Dr. B. And his staff are always so compassionate and knowledgeable about my condition. They are personable and sometimes funny. I know that when Dr. Bethoux always has my best interest in mind when he's treating me. I am lucky that I was able to get him as my doctor.
