Dr. Shao is very personable, makes one feel at ease. He's open and receptive to all questions and presents information in a way that is easily understood. All options are presented and he encourages one to come to a decision that would be in one's best interest. For me, having been recently diagnosed with early Fuch's dystrophy and early cataracts by him, I needed to decide on waiting another year for cataract surgery or going ahead and scheduling it sooner. He helped me to understand that by removing the cataracts now, it would lessen the damage to the corneas by using less energy to remove the early cataracts. I messaged him on mychart later. He replied within a few hours ! I think he's a very caring knowledgeable and excellent opthamologist and I will recommend him to others.

From my first visit, I found Dr. Shao as being a calming/caring person, very professional and just plain nice. The day of my surgery, he brought in his whole staff and introduced each one before going into the surgical room and each asked me if there are any questions. But what really got me was when the doctor got behind me and pushed my bed into the surgical suite!, I asked him what was he doing, he replied, we're all going in together. I've had two surgeries there and both doctors came in asked a couple of questions and said see you in the room. I don't know where you got Dr. Shao from, but please recruit more. And if I may give a suggestion, at least once a month have him lead a training class on how to talk with patients. I know that once a month may be unattainable, but it would let staff know they are trying to tell us something. I've noticed signs everywhere about hostile conduct, verbal/physical threats and actions will not be tolerated, and It shouldn't, but!!, that works both ways, Some staff members shouldn't be so condescending, looking down on people, not listening especially in a crisis situation. I speak from experience, I had those type of staff members, became verbally hostile and was shall I say a red Flagged for my conduct. I say all of this to say Dr. Shao is refreshing, very refreshing, you really have a gem, and I have recommended him to several people. Thank you for the opportunity of speaking about him.
