About Francis DiPierro, MD

Francis DiPierro, MD, FACS is a Staff Cardiothoracic Instensivist in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, and an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.  He is Board Certified in the following three specialties:

Professional Highlights

  • Dr. DiPierro completed his General Surgery training at the University of Pennsylvania, and then completed his Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery training at the Cleveland Clinic.  He performed cardiovascular and thoracic surgery for 12 years at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine.  While there, he served on the Eastern Maine Medical Center Medical Executive Committee, carried out clinical research, and participated in the multidisciplinary meetings of the Thoracic Oncology Tumor Board.  He returned to the Cleveland Clinic Department of Thoracic and Cardiothoracic Surgery working as staff surgeon from 2012-2015.  He was appointed Division Head for Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Marymount Hospital.  He then completed the Critical Care Anesthesiology Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in 2017, after which he joined the Cleveland Clinic Department of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology as a Surgical Intensivist specializing in the care of cardiovascular and thoracic surgical patients at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus.  Dr. DiPierro was then appointed Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.  He has performed quality improvement projects in critical care at the Cleveland Clinic, has performed meeting work for the Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists Annual Meeting and Critical Care Update, and has published a number of scientific papers and abstracts in cardiothoracic surgical journals including the Annals of Thoracic Surgery and the European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery.
