Dr. Yared received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, where he also completed an internship in pediatrics and residency in general anesthesia. He then completed a fellowships in cardiac anesthesia and in critical care medicine at the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Yared served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the American University in Beirut and subsequently as Director of Cardiac Anesthesia and Post-Surgical Cardiac ICU at Dr. Fakeeh Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Yared is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Critical Care Medicine. He was appointed to the Cleveland Clinic, Department of Cardiac Anesthesiology in 1988. He served as Director of the Cardiovascular ICU for 15 years and as Director of the Center for Critical Care Medicine in the Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute for 5 years. During his tenure, the Cardiovascular ICU doubled in capacity and reached the highest standards in clinical expertise and quality of patient care. He introduced the concept of Medical Emergency Teams to the Cleveland Clinic and initiated the formation of the CMET and AMET.
Dr. Yared’s clinical research has focused on studying interventions that may improve the clinical outcome of high-risk cardiac surgery patients. He has special interest in the treatment of pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure as well as in modulation of the inflammatory response to cardiopulmonary bypass and prevention and treatment of delirium. He has authored or co-authored numerous articles and abstracts in medical journals such as Anesthesia and Analgesia, Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery and Intensive Care Medicine. He wrote several book chapters addressing the assessment and management cardiac surgical and critically ill patients. He has been an invited lecturer at international and national medical conferences and symposia.
Dr. Yared is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, and the Cleveland Society of Anesthesiologists. He participated as a member or a leader in many Cleveland Clinic committees and task forces as well as in several national committees.
