Conrad Simpfendorfer. MD, FACC, is an Interventional Cardiologist in the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.
Specialty Interests: treatment of valvular heart disease and coronary artery disease. He specializes in cardiac catheterization and coronary interventions.

Education and Training: A native of Chile, Dr. Simpfendorfer received his medical degree from Catholic University of Chile, in Santiago, graduating with "Unanimous Distinction." He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland, followed by a fellowship in cardiology at Cleveland Clinic. He was appointed to Cleveland Clinic Staff in the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine in 1982.
Awards and Honors: Dr. Simpfendorfer received the Distinguished Teacher Award from the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine in 1994 and from Interventional Cardiology in 2006 and 2016. In 2003, Dr. Simpfendorfer received the SOLACI Award from the Latin American Society of Interventional Cardiology for his continued support of educational activities of the Society. In 2006, he was honored by the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico with the Dr. Ignacio Chavez Medal. He was named among the Best Doctors in America for 2007 through 2013. In 2017, he was honored by Fundaliow Cardioinfantil, Colombia in support of education activities. In 2018 received the Cleveland Clinic Distinguished Alumus Award.
Research, Publications and Speaking: A frequent invited lecturer at international medical meetings, Dr. Simpfendorfer has authored more than one hundred articles and book chapters on his specialty interests. He has also served as the primary and co-investigator for numerous clinical studies related to coronary interventions.
Dr. Simpfendorfer is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA), Fellow of the Society for Cardiac Angiography (FSCAI), Fellow of the American College of Angiology, Fellow of the Interamerican College of Physicians and Surgeons. In addition, he is a member of the American College of Physicians and the International Andreas Gruentzig Society. He is an Honorary Member of the Cardiology Societies of Argentina, Chile, Ecuador and Peru.

Couldn't have been more pleased with the Doctor's care, questions and answers. Very concerned with what I had to say. He told me what testing was needed and hopefully find what the problem is so he can get started with a solution. I had prayed that I would get the doctor I needed and my prayers were answered.

Dr. Simpfendorfer is outstanding is the way he listens and pays attention to me as an individual. He takes time needed to get to know me in the context of my whole life. He also takes time from documentation to sit back and look me in the eye. He also has an outstanding sense of humor, which he uses very effectively to foster the therapeutic relationship with me.

Dr. Conrad Simpfendorfer has treated me for over 30 years and he is extremely knowledgeable and caring. He was involved with my care requiring stress tests every other year to check my condition after a very minor heart attack when I was 40, when I was passed off from another interventional cardiologist at Fairview Hospital who was retiring. After 3-4 stress tests he did a necessary catheterization to determine 4 blockages in the heart. He got me to a talented surgeon team at CC for a quad by-pass 20 years ago. He has been following up w/carotid screening and stress tests/blood work ever since. When I developed atrial flutter, he got me to Dr. Bhargava who handled that successfully. I have been so lucky to have known Conrad and his associates over the years.

I have been seeing Dr. Simpfendorfer for 15 years and I am very, very pleased with his care. I think that he does a superb job of promoting Cleveland Clinic's reputation. I was sorry to hear that Leela, his administrative assistant, has been promoted. She was always very helpful to me, very competent and efficient.

Dr Simpfendorfer was very efficient and courteous. He is very professional and knowledgeable. He answered my questions and explained findings of tests that I had taken that were completed. He explained that my next annual visit would consist of some additional tests.I appreciate him so very much.
