About R. Thomas Temes, MD

Roy T. Temes, MD, is a member of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute.  His interests include all aspects of General Thoracic Surgery, with special interest and emphasis in robotic and minimally invasive Thoracic Surgery.  In addition to his responsibilities as full staff at Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Temes is an attending physician at Lakewood Hospital, Fairview General Hospital, Parma Community General Hospital, and MetroHealth Medical Center. He is board certified in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and General Surgery, and is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Chest Physicians. 

Dr. Temes did his undergraduate training at the University of California at Berkeley and Johns Hopkins University.  He graduated from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and then completed his General Surgery residency at University of California Davis Medical Center.  His specialty training is in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery obtained at Washington University / Barnes Hospital. He was an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of New Mexico Medical Center prior to his appointment to the Cleveland Clinic in 1999.  He is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.  Dr. Temes recently received a Master’s of Business Administration with honors from the James J. Nance College of Business Administration at Cleveland State University.

He has made nearly 100 presentations on a variety of complex thoracic topics at medical conferences and meetings around the world. Dr. Temes is active in teaching medical students, residents, and allied health professionals.  He has been an invited visiting professor and has authored or co-authored nearly 75 articles, abstracts and book chapters from leading peer reviewed journals.  He is an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and for the Annals of Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Temes is a member of the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group, the National Cancer Institute and the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group.  He belongs to numerous societies including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the American College of Chest Physicians.
