Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 7/11/2019, Dr. Legha has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Click here to view a listing of instances where Cleveland Clinic has identified a Public Health Service (PHS)-Reportable Financial Conflict of Interest and has put measures in place to ensure that, to the extent possible, the design, conduct and reporting of the research is free from bias.

This physician was the worst. She hadn't reviewed my chart and kept repeating recommendations as though she hadn't paid any attention to my history or what I told her. For example, even though I told her I'd been on a statin for four months, she said that I may want to go on a statin and I should check my bloodwork after being on it for 8 weeks. ??. Additionally, she had my very high calcium ct score but seemed incapable of remembering it during the meeting. She said: "it's perfectly normal to have calcium deposits at your age." I responded but I'm in the 88th percentile, which is not 'normal.'" She nodded but did she actually understand me? The whole meeting was deeply frustrating and I regret making the trip to see her Ultimately, I was uncertain as to whether she had a comprehension problem or she cared so little that she wasn't listening. I am astonished that she has a position with the Cleveland Clinic. Now its been a week, and I still don't have results from my stress test. This may be a typical timeline, I don't know--but if it's dependent on this indifferent practitioner I cannot help but wonder. In fact, I have so little confidence in this doctor that I would prefer someone else review the test.

dr. Legha had no idea why she was seeing me and did not have any of my records. she was very frustrated not with me but with the clinic. she did listen to my heart and discuss my situation and said she would sign off for me to have the surgery. she did offer to follow up after surgery as my cardiologist but since I live in Norman OK and have a cardiologist there I would continue to see him. I did not make any of my pre op appts. Dr Leigha was very professional.

I found Dr. Legha to be extraordinarily knowledgeable about cardiac issues. She was very kind, helpful and professional. I look forward to Dr. Legha being my cardiologist for the remainder of my life here in Cleveland.
