Luke J. Laffin, MD, is a physician in the Preventive Cardiology & Rehabilitation Section in the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He sees patients at Cleveland Clinic main campus.

Education: Dr. Laffin earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, Tenn. He served his residency at University of Chicago Medical Center, Chicago, Ill., followed by fellowships in hypertensive diseases and cardiovascular disease there. He was named to the Cleveland Clinic staff in 2018.
Experience: Preventive Cardiology & Rehabilitation Section staff provide cardiac rehabilitation services for more than 31,000 patient visits annually.
Publications: Dr. Laffin has published two dozen articles and more than a dozen research abstracts in peer-reviewed medical journals, mainly on the diagnosis and management of hypertension (high blood pressure). He has made research presentations at regional, national, and international medical meetings and co-authored five chapters in medical textbooks related to hypertension
About Dr. Laffin: “I believe a healthy lifestyle, comprised of a balanced diet, appropriate weight, regular exercise and sufficient sleep, is the foundation for the prevention of heart and vascular disease by controlling risk factors such as blood pressure and cholesterol levels. I take an individualized approach to evaluating a patient’s cardiovascular risk factors instead of taking a one-size-fits-all approach in deciding how aggressively to treat blood pressure and cholesterol. I particularly enjoy working with patients with resistant hypertension - blood pressure that cannot be controlled with three or more medications - to find an appropriate lifestyle and medication regimen that is well-tolerated and also achieves appropriate blood pressure reduction.”
Leisure Activities: In his leisure time, Dr. Laffin enjoys travel and spending time with his family.

Dr Laffin prescribed medication to treat my blood pressure that allows me to return to my normal life. Numerous other doctors within the past 8 months (which included a 4 day hospital stay) and resulted in losing vision in one of my eyes, from the high blood pressure, had been unsuccessful. I couldn't be more pleased with Dr Laffin!

Dr. Laffin is excellent!!! He is so personable and respectful! I feel as though we work as a team. He is easy to talk with, and he is very knowledgeable. It was obvious he had read my chart before he entered the room. I just think the works of him and am so happy he is my preventative cardiologist. He is absolutely superb! My blood pressure is finally very good since he changed my medications. I am so thankful for him!

The difference I noticed is Dr. Laffin actively listened to my comments and when he asked a question he waited for an answer patiently, I didn't feel like he asked a question and if I didn't answer in 2 seconds on to the next thing. Dr. Laffin was patient while listening to my answers. Very good experience.
