About Amgad Mentias, M.D.

Amgad Mentias, MD, MSc, is a clinical cardiologist in the Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He sees patients at main campus.

Specialty Interests: Aortic valve disease, mitral valve disease, coronary artery disease (CAD)

As a general cardiologist, Dr. Mentias is experienced in caring for patients with the full range of cardiovascular diseases and conditions. He is board certified in internal medicine, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and cardiovascular disease and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Education: Dr. Mentias received his Doctorate of Medicine from Ain Shams University, Faculty of Medicine, Cairo, Egypt. He completed a residency in internal medicine and cardiology there, followed by a second internal medicine residency at Cleveland Clinic. He continued his specialty training in cardiology as a fellow in cardiovascular medicine at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. During his fellowship he earned a Master of Science in clinical investigation from the University of Iowa College of Public Health.

Prior to Dr. Mentias’ appointment to the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2020 he was a staff cardiologist at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Mentias has coauthored more than 70 research papers, letters and editorials published in leading peer-reviewed journals, primarily on the latest treatments for heart disease and heart attack, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). He is on the editorial board of the Journal of American Heart Association and is a manuscript reviewer for Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, Journal of the American Heart Association (and American Journal of Cardiology.

About Dr. Mentias: "I enjoy my field because as a cardiologist I have the opportunity to touch patients' lives. It is humbling to be able to help patients manage their heart disease, get back to their normal lives and hopefully enjoy more time with their loved ones."

Leisure Activities: In his leisure time, Dr. Mentias enjoys running, hiking, weightlifting and playing the drums.
